Japan has a great history that can be traced all the way back to the Paleolithic times. There are so many different events and cultural occurrences that have truly led Japan to be the great country it is today. Japan history is a long and great one.
The Paleolithic time period occurred around 100,000-30,000 BC. This ends at the end of the last ice age and was time of stone tools and primitive living. The documents of Japan history during this time are spotty at best. The closer you get to the current time period the more that is known.
The next is the J mon period that lasted until 300 BC. There were actual civilization patterns that historians have been able to uncover. This was certainly a hunter-gatherer time of Japan history.
Next is the Yayoi period. Culture started to get a bit more advanced at this stage with things like rice farming and bronze work. There were even different alliances and sub-cultures that started to form in this early version of Japan.
Of course, the first written documentation of this great country did not even come about until 57 AD. These written documents described rule by a queen names Himiko and the many different tribes.
The Kofun period came about in the middle of the 3rd century and was followed by the Asuku period. Many speculate that it was during this time in Japan history that Buddhism was introduced.
It also became more advanced as the people of Japan made contact with those from other countries. China and Korea were intertwined during what is called the Nara period. It was then that things like government and religion were introduced
A later time was the Heian period. This lasted between 794 AD and 1185 AD. This was definitely a time of art and classical Japanese history. Poetry and literature abounded. The military also began to get a bigger stronghold.
Feudal Japan came later and lasted for a very long time. It is recorded to have lasted between the 12th and 19th centuries. The daimyo ruled and there were shogun warlords.
The Miji restoration period saw the abolishment of the feudal period. There was a lot of contact with the western world and a lot of those customs were adopted. The shogun were removed as well. Japan became a world power.
Japan had a war with China during this period, which marked a time in Japan history where they became the bigger power in the East. This led to fighting in World War I and World War II in the 1900’s. This culminated on an attack on Pearl Harbor in the US and retaliation by the US government. The country became occupied as a dark time in Japan history.
Eventually, Japan became allies of the US government. The country has thrived economically and has become a force to be reckoned with as far as technology development. The innovation is truly unmatched.
Japan history is rich and full. It extends even beyond the time of written records and into the huge power they are today. Learning the history is a fun experience that introduces you to a great culture.
